Manuscripts published in Papers in Press have undergone peer review and have been accepted for publication. This published research is searchable in PubMed and elsewhere and can be cited using a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), as in the following example:

Papers in Press have not undergone copyediting or formatting, and the version of the article you see here will ultimately be replaced by the final version that gets published in an upcoming issue of the journal. At that point, the Papers in Press version is removed.
